How To Remove The Blogger NavBar

A lot of people who host their blogs on Blogger (www.blogspot.com) complain about the inability to remove the blogger navigation bar via their elements page. Indeed, if that's where you are looking, the only thing you'll be able to do from there is change the color to one of several pre-determined selections.
If you really want to remove the blogger navigation bar, you need to access your HTML template. Before I tell you how to do that, however, I'd like to first talk about why you may or may not want to remove the nav bar from your blogspot blog.

Main Reasons To Remove It.

  • It looks more professional without it: Depending on what your purpose for blogging is, you may choose to remove the blogger navbar because having one makes a blog look more like a free-hosted blog and less like a professional site worth taking seriously.
  • It gives you more space at the top of your page: This may not seem significant, but not having the navbar there does give you a bit more space for graphics. I have found this space to be quite useful when designing my own blogs.

Main Reasons To Keep It.

  • It makes editing a little bit easier: You can login directly from the blog itself, and don't have to worry about logging into blogger. You can also edit capsules from the main page, without having to go into elements.
  • You get a teeny bit of traffic from the "next blog" button: And I do mean teenie. I can't even recall the last time I saw traffic from it.

    How To Remove It

If you've decided that you definitely want to remove your blogger navbar, it's actually a very simple process that any non-technically-inclined person can accomplish with ease. Just follow these steps:
    1. Login to your blogger dashboard.
    2. Click "Layout"
    3. Click "Edit HTML"
    4. Find the BLUE code you see in the image to your right. The code will be quite near the top of your HTML section, you shouldn't have to scroll very far at all. The blue code should definitely be there, but the data box you see may not be, depending on where your template came from.
    5. ADD the code you see in red precisely where you it see it in the image to your right. If you want to copy and paste it, do so from the bold text you see below:

    #navbar-iframe {
    display: none !important;
    }

    Preview It First!

Use your preview button before you click save! If you like what you see, go ahead and save.

What happens if I want the navbar back in the future?

Simply go back into your HTML the same way and delete the part you just added. It's really that simple!

Summing Formulas

Excel SUM Formula Probably, the most widely used Excel formula, the SUM function in Excel is specifically designed to add values from different ranges, or one range. The SUM formula can be typed into a cell in Excel, or inserted via the Insert Function tool to the left of your Formula bar.
Excel Autosum Function Because adding numbers is probably the most common function that Excel is used for, Excel has a built-in Feature called AutoSum located on the Standard toolbar.
Array Formulas in Excel I strongly suggest you read this very important information on using array formulas in your spreadsheets. Array formulas can let you specify more then one criteria to Sum, Average, Count etc by. Many examples of how to use them.
Excel Conditional Sum Wizard The Conditional Sum Wizard is an Add-In to Excel that is used to summarize values in a list based on set criteria.
Sum With Multiple Criteria Examples of Excel formulas to sum a range of cells that meet multiple criteria. ,DSUM, SUMPRODUCT and SUM with an IF function/formula.
Sum Every nth Cell
Sum nth Largest/Smallest

Increase/Decrease Values If you have values on an Excel Worksheet that you need to permanently increase, or decrease you can use Paste Special. No Excel formulas needed!
Excel Subtotals In Excel we can use the Subtotals feature found under Data on the Worksheet Menu Bar to Subtotal a table of data.
Bold Excel Subtotals Here is how we can use Conditional Formatting in Excel to automatically bold the results of Subtotals.
Making the SUBTOTAL Function Dynamic How to use the one function (not feature as above) to perform a chosen operation on only visible cells after using Auto Filter.

VLOOKUP Perhaps one of Excels most commonly used Excel Formulas is the VLOOKUP. It is also possibly the Excel formula that most people have problems understanding.
Stop #N/A! In Vlookup
Excel HLOOKUP Another one of Excels most commonly needed Excel Formulas is the HLOOKUP.
Left Lookup in Excel Excel is very rich in Lookup formulas, with perhaps the VLOOKUP being the most popular. However, the draw-back with all Excel's Lookup formulas is that they will only look in the left most column and return the result from the corresponding cell to the right. There are times when users need to lookup data in any column of table and return the corresponding cell to the left.
Excel Lookups With Array Constants Would like to show you what I call: In-Cell-Lookups. These are the perfect replacement for multiple nested IF functions.
Dynamic Formulas Rather than bog you Spreadsheet down with hundreds, if not thousands of formulas, use a single formula with flexible and changeable Arguments. In this example I will use the INDEX/MATCH functions nested together. You can also instruct the end formula to return the corresponding cell, to the match, on the left or right.  However, the the same principles can apply to most Excel formulas.
INDEX/MATCH Functions While the Vlookup Function is very useful, it cannot look in anyonly the 1st. Also, it cannot offset x columns to the left or return the value x rows before or after the found value. An INDEX & MATCH combo will allow for all of this flexibility. Column,
Find Nth Occurrence in Excel As you may already know, we can use VLOOKUP, or INDEX/MATCH to locate the first occurrence of a specified value in a list, or table of data. However, Excel has no ready made formula that allows us to locate say the second, or third occurrence etc of a specified value.
Excel Lookup Table VLookup is the perfect Excel formula for numerical values contained in a range. However if you tried to use VLookup with text in a table, it's use would be limited, For example surnames such as Smith, Smithson, Smithy, Smithson-Jacobs would create problems.
Dynamic Excel Lookups These are very handy for when you lookup data but cannot be sure which column your returned data should come from. In other words, users may have inserted a column within the table.
Lookup & Return Corresponding Result While we can use any of the links above for lookup formulas, all require a table of cells in a Worksheet. If you only have small number of items to return based on the value of another cell, we can do the lookup without leaving the cell!
Excel Hyperlinks How to get the most from hyperlinks. Hyperlinks that still work when a Worksheet name changes. Create a hyperlink to a Chart Sheet
Hyperlink to Lookup Result Excel is quite rich in Lookup type formulas, some of the more popular ones are VLOOKUP , INDEX/MATCH and HLOOKUP . These all do a great job in looking up a value we specify and then return a corresponding result. However, it's often the case that we need to go to the row containing the found value, or its offset return.
Dynamic Reports Here you can see how we can the Database functions to produce dynamic reporting from a table of data.
Multi-Table Lookup Use the Dependent Validation Lists method to tell Excel to lookup any chosen item in any table you tell it.

NAMED RANGES
Excel Named Ranges/Using Names in Excel
Sheet Level Named Ranges Normally, when you name a range the name is at the Workbook level, meaning the name refers to a specified range on a specified Worksheet. Once the name has been used it cannot be used again to represent a range on another Worksheet. However, sometimes it can be very handy to have one name that will refer to a specified range on the active sheet at the time. Here is how it is done!
Named Constants Let's look at Named Constants. These are simply values that are given a meaningful name.
Named Formulas Now we have seen how easy Named Ranges and Named Constants are, we can look at a little known ability of Names where they can used to create custom formulas
Relative Named Ranges A relative named range is a named range that refers to a range that is relative to the position of the cell pointer at the time they are created. This makes them perfect for formulas that are required to be moved around a worksheet and are easy to create.
Dynamic Named Ranges Possibly one of Excels most underutilized aspects is its ability to create dynamic named ranges that will expand and contract according to the data in them.
Advanced Dynamic Named Ranges They are ideal to be used in a vast array of different situations. I thought I would show you some Dynamic Named Ranges with a twist.
VIEWING & Printing
View Multiple Sheets of an Excel Workbook A very handy feature of Excel is its ability to allow you to create a copy of a workbook and compare and work with the copy whilst simultaneously working with and viewing the original workbook. There are two ways in Excel that you can do this.
View Multiple Different Workbooks To allow you more flexibility when working with workbooks, Excel allows you to view workbooks in different windows by offering four different custom views to work with.
Save as Workspace If you wish to compare either multiple workbooks, or the same workbook over and over again, and you have set up a custom view to do this, Excel has the facility to save a custom view as what is known as a workspace
Excel Freeze Panes When you have a large worksheet, it is often required that column or row labels remain in view. By using Excel's Freeze Panes feature you can freeze either columns or rows in your worksheet so that they remain visible whilst you scroll.
Excel Split Panes A very handy feature of Excel is its ability to allow you view more than one copy of your worksheet, and for you to be able to scroll through each pane of your worksheet independently.
Limit/Restrict Scroll Area on an Excel Worksheet With Excel having 256 Columns and 65536 rows you may wish to limit, or restrict, the area that users can scroll to on your Worksheet.
Printing in Excel Basics of printing in Excel along with some tips and tricks.
Efficient Excel Printing The content of a Worksheet is far more important than using a great deal of formatting to pretty it up (although there are some basic fundamentals for efficient Excel Spreadsheet Design ).
Headers & Footers in Excel As the names suggest, a Header is something that appears at the top of every page, and a Footer is something that appears at the bottom of the page.

TEXT

Pull Last Word(s) After Last or First Instance of a Specified Character Suppose you have the text "11003-blue-40 lbs" in Cell A1 and you need to get the last words/characters after the last occurrence of the dash (-), i.e. "40 lbs", you can use......
Extracting Words From Text in Excel Excel has very powerful and useful Text formula/functions that we can use to extract words from a string of words. Or, put another way, parse out specific words from text. The examples here show how we can use the Excel formulas to do this.
Convert Text to Upper/Proper Case Excel has 2 built in Excel Formulas for converting text to either UPPER CASE or Proper Case.  However, there are many instances when using the Worksheet Function approach is not practical.
Converting Text Numbers to Real Numbers Sometimes Excel sees numbers as text and this causes problems. Here are two simple ways that should help both constants and formulas.
Sort Alphanumeric Text Excel has a problem trying to sort alphanumeric cells in cells by the number portion only. The reason is simply because Excels Sort features evaluates each cell value by reading left to right. However, we can over-come this in a few ways with the aid of Excel Macros

FILTERS

Excel AutoFilters One of the most useful functions in Excel is the AutoFilter. The AutoFilter allows a user to filter items in a list according to a set criteria. You can filter text, numbers or dates with AutoFilter.
Display AutoFilter Criteria Excel's AutoFilter is one of Excel's most useful features. However, the one small draw-back is it's hard top tell the criteria being used at a glance.
Excel Advanced Filter Other than Excel's very popular Auto Filter, we have at our disposal Excel's Advanced Filter. In a nutshell, Excel's Advanced Filter can be used to filter by more than 2 criterion, where Auto Filter has a max of 2! It also has a very nifty feature that allows us to create a list of unique items from a list with repeated data. In addition, we can even use Excel formulas for Excel's Advanced Filter criteria.
Goal Seek Goal Seek can be used when you know the result of a formula, but not the input value required by the formula to decide the result, reverse calculation.

CONDITIONAL FORMATTING

Conditional Formatting In Excel 97, Microsoft introduced a nifty new feature called Conditional Formatting. It allows us to format a cell, or range of cells, based on a specified criteria for the cell(s), or other cell(s).
Conditional Formatting 3 Criteria Limit If you are familiar with Conditional Formatting in Excel you will know it has a 3 criteria limit. However, with the aid of Excel Custom Formats we can have up to 6 Conditional Formats for Font color. If you need background color and/or you need text values, see Conditional Formatting 3 criteria Limit for a Excel VBA method.
Alternate Row Coloring Now that Excel has Conditional Formatting (since Excel 97) we can use it to create an alternate row color for a table of data. This is often referred to as color banding and means that every second row should be filled with a specified color.
Bold Excel Subtotals Here is how we can use Conditional Formatting in Excel to automatically bold the results of Subtotals.

Formats

Custom Formats in Excel Excel has custom number formats that can be used on dates, times, text and currencies. There are some practical examples and a link to Microsoft’s information on custom number formats that I highly recommend.
Custom Formats With Symbols Format Cell To Include Symbols. Superscript & Subscript in Custom Formats

CONSOLIDATION & OUTLINING

Excel Consolidate Consolidation is the process of combining values from several ranges of data either from within the same or different workbooks. It can be used to summarize data from different worksheets into master worksheet and create a report using a variety of calculations.
Excel Auto Outline Outlining is a means of viewing levels of detail as required by collapsing or expanding to hide or show information. You can identify subtotals and hide or collapse detail so that only subtotals appear on the screen.
Enable Outline/Outlining on a Protected Worksheet In Excel 2000 Microsoft added many new levels of Worksheet protection to Excel. Unfortunately they have neglected to add one that would allow Excel users to use Grouping/Outlining on a protected Worksheet.
Excel Scenarios Excel's Scenario Manager is a tool that can be used to determine different projected outcomes of data by changing different cells within a Worksheet model.
TRACK CHANGES
Excel Track Changes The Track Changes feature in Excel is used to record a history of any changes made to the workbook.  You can log user names, the type of change, the date the change was made and where about in the workbook the change occurred.
VALIDATION
Data Validation In Excel 97 Microsoft introduced a cool new feature called Data Validation. It can be found under Data on the Worksheet Menu Bar. Its purpose is to help stop entries into cells that are not within the criteria we set.
Dependent Validation Lists A common question from Excel users is along the lines of; I have a list in a cell that has used Data>Validation with the "List" option. I would like to have another cell display a list that is depended on the item chosen in my first list. Uses Excel formulas!
Decreasing Validation Lists If you need to have a list of options that decreases as users select from it, you can use Data Validation and some Excel VBA Code .
Auto Complete Validation List What would be really nice is if Excel would AutoComplete based on our list! Unfortunately no such standard feature exists in Excel.
Stop/Prevent Blanks in Excel With the aid of Data Validation and some Excel formulas we can ensure a table, or list cannot have blank/missing entries.
Multi-Table Lookup Use the Dependent Validation Lists method to tell Excel to lookup any chosen item in any table you tell it.
Duplicates
Highlight Duplicates in Excel Example of how we can use Conditional Formatting to highlight duplicates in Excel.
Stop/Prevent Duplicates in Excel If you are familiar with the Excel Data Validation feature, we can move into a great use for it! That is, prevent duplicates in an Excel Spreadsheet.

LINKS AND PROBLEMS

Update Links in Excel When you have formula links in an Excel Workbook (destination) to another Excel Workbook (source) you will be asked if you wish to update links in the Workbook (destination) each time you open it. This can be painful when you always want, or don't want, links updated.
Stop Do You Want To Save Changes Some users will get the "Do You Want To Save Changes Made to..." when closing an Excel Workbook that has had no changes, or even a new Workbook without changes.
Efficient Excel Spreadsheet Design This page is a must read for anyone with the task of designing and setting up an Excel spreadsheet. It talks about formatting, layout and calculation speed.

Record Macros in Excel A macro is a series of key strokes or mouse actions that are recorded and saved as a program.  You can activate your macro at any time you like to repeat your recorded steps.  Macros can be assigned to a shortcut key, an object or even to your toolbar to make them easier to access.
Assign Macros in Excel Once you have recorded your Excel macro , there are a number of ways that you can run it.
Create Custom Toolbars The toolbars in Excel can be easily manipulated to allow a user to customize their own toolbar.  This is great for situations where there is a shared workbook used by multiple users.
Create Excel Worksheet Templates Worksheet templates are used to store settings you want to appear on all new sheets of the same type.  The default worksheet template is stored as sheet.xlt.
Create Excel Workbook Templates Workbook templates can contain things such as specific formatting styles, column/row labels, headers and footers, formulas and even macros. Workbook templates are used for settings you want in all new workbooks based on the template.
Return Excel Worksheet Name to a Cell In Excel it is possible to use the CELL function/formula and the MID, LEN and FIND to return the name of an Excel Worksheet in a Workbook. We can also use a handy Custom Excel VBA Function.
Convert Excel Formulas and Function to Values Only Here are a few ways that we can convert Excel formulas to their values.
Increment by Row When Copying Across Columns This easy to use method can save lots of time.
Controls from Forms Toolbar vs Controls from the Control Toolbox Toolbar Some useful information on these 2 types of Controls.
Variable Worksheet Names in Excel Formulas There is sometimes a need to have a Worksheet name in a cell as a variable and to use that Worksheet name in a formula. This then enables one to switch Worksheet names and have one single formula able to return results from all Worksheets.

Tips on Maximizing the Battery Life of Your iPod

The iPod is one of the most popular and in demand devices today. With its ability to store hundreds of thousands of music files and play it while you are on the go, it will keep you entertained wherever you are.
However, you have to remember that the iPod still relies on battery to power it up. Every now and then, you will need to recharge your iPod's battery in order for you to continue to enjoy it. The iPod battery is made of lithium polymer that is rated to do 500 or even more charging cycles, which means that if you recharge your iPod every other day, you will be able to charge for about three years.
Of course, you want your iPod battery to last as long as possible in order for you to enjoy it more and avoid the hassle of paying a lot of money for replacement batteries. So, here are some tips that you can use in order for you to let your iPod battery last a very long time and get the most out of your money.

Recharge Every Two Days!

The first thing that you should remember is that you should never let the battery die out completely. Never get it to fully discharge, which means that you shouldn't use it until the battery dies out. No matter how much you use your iPod, you need to at least recharge it three times a week in order to prevent the battery to go flat. So, if you have to go out of town for a month or go on a vacation, you may want to bring your iPod with you and its recharging kit in order for you to frequently recharge it. You are going to take your iPod with you when you go on vacation anyway, right? Just remember to recharge it every two days of using it.
The next tip to maximize your iPod's battery life is to reduce the demand for battery power. There are quite a lot of ways to do this. The first is by playing your music by playlist or by album. Try not to hop from one track to another as this will make the internal hard drive in your iPod spin faster, which will mean more power usage.

Do Not Use WAV or AIFF Music Files!

As much as possible try not to use WAV or AIFF music files. Instead, use MP3 or AAC or any other iPod supported music files that are compressed or smaller in file size. If you use uncompressed or larger files, the hard drive will work twice as hard, which will mean quicker battery drain.
You may also want to try minimizing the use of your backlight or try completely turning it off. You can also set your backlight to automatically turn off in a specific amount of time. You can either set your iPod backlight to remain turned on for 2 seconds to as much as 20 seconds. You also have the option to never turn off your iPod backlight, which is not recommended. If you need the backlight, try to minimize its usage by setting it in the 2 second automatic backlight shut down.
These are the things that you need to remember about saving battery power in your iPod. By following these tips, you can be sure that you will be able to prolong your iPod's battery life.

Password Protection and Tips

System Security Begins With You
There are two classifications of individuals who try to break into computer systems -- hackers and crackers. Hackers are individuals with proficient computer skills who exploit weaknesses in system programming in order control a computer system. Crackers break into computer accounts and damage the system using the privileges that are available to the stolen account or use the stolen account to mask their identity when attempting to break into other computer systems on the local network or the Internet. How can these renegades be foiled? The hacker is stopped by closing down the “holes” the s/he finds.
Computer & Telecommunication Services regularly installs software patches to close down security holes and continuously monitors possible break-in points. The cracker is stopped by good password security and good password security is in your hands.
Keep your password secure
Never tell someone else your password. Richard Stockton College feels so strongly about this aspect of password protection that it is specifically stated in the acceptable use policy in Standard 2. “Users may not disclose the password of an account or otherwise make the account available to others who have not been authorized to use the account. Users are responsible for all usage of their accounts and are expected to take appropriate safeguards to assure that their passwords are not known to others.” Never write down your password. Anyone observing your login will see where it is located and can retrieve it for their use -- or misuse -- when you aren’t around. Even if they don’t observe your login, they will look for anything written down and posted in the vicinity of your workstation (e.g., the side of the monitor, bottom of the keyboard, on the keyboard tray.).
Never send your password to someone else in an electronic mail message. You cannot be sure of the security measures taken on the systems that your message passes through or the security of the system where your message is delivered.
Never use software that automates your login. This type of feature embeds your password into a
configuration file or programmable keyboard key. Anyone sitting at your computer has immediate access to your password. Use a password that you can type easily and quickly. This will thwart anyone attempting to get your password by watching over your shoulder as you type.
Change your password regularly
All of our central systems and file servers require you to change your password every ninety days. If you suspect someone might know your password, don’t wait for it to expire. Change it immediately!
You should change your password more frequently if you TELNET to Stockton’s computer systems from another site. The Internet is a complex web of computer networks and security levels vary. At less secure sites it is possible for a really determined cracker to monitor communications packets and capture your username and password.

Secrets Windows Tips and Untold

Welcome to another Hacking Truths Manual. This time I have a collection of Tips and Tricks which no body normally knows, the secrets which Microsoft is afraid to tell the people, the information which you will seldom find all gathered up and arranged in a single file. To fully reap this Manual you need to have a basic understanding of the Windows Registry, as almost all the Tricks and Tips involve this file.

Important Note: Before you read on, you need to keep one thing in mind. Whenever you make changes to the Windows Registry you need to Refresh it before the changes take place. Simply press F5 to refresh the registry and enable the changes. If this does not work Restart your system
Exiting Windows the Cool and Quick Way
Normally it takes a hell lot of time just Shutting down Windows, you have to move your mouse to the Start Button, click on it, move it again over Shut Down, click, then move it over the necessary option and click, then move the cursor over the OK button and once again (you guessed it) click. This whole process can be shortened by creating shortcuts on the Desktop which will shut down Windows at the click of a button. Start by creating a new shortcut^ right click and select New> Shortcut). Then in the command line box, type (without the quotes.)
'C:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindowsexec'
This Shortcut on clicking will restart Windows immediately without any Warning. To create a Shortcut to Restarting Windows, type the following in the Command Line box:
'cAwindowsXrundlLexeuser.exejexitwindows1
This Shortcut on clicking will shut down Windows immediately without any Warning.
Ban Shutdowns : A trick to Play on Lamers
This is a neat trick you can play on that lamer that has a huge ego, in this section I teach you, how to disable the Shut Down option in the Shut Down Dialog Box. This trick involves editing the registry, so please make backups. Launch regeditexe and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wmdows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo rer

In the right pane look for the NoClose Key. If it is not already there then create it by right clicking in the right pane and selecting New > String Value.(Name it NoCloseKey ) Now once you see the NoCloseKey in the right pane, right click on it and select Modify. Then Type 1 in the Value Data Box.
Doing the above on a Win98 system disables the Shut Down option in the Shut Down Dialog Box. But on a Win95 machine if the value of NoCloseKey is set to 1 then click on the Start > Shut Down button displays the following error message:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
You can enable the shut down option by changing the value of NoCloseKey to 0 or simply deleting the particular entry i.e. deleting NoCloseKey.
Instead of performing the above difficult to remember process, simply save the following with an extension of .reg and add it's contents to the registry by double clicking on it.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl orer]
"NoClose"="r
Disabling Display of Drives in My Computer
This is yet another trick you can play on your geek friend. To disable the display of local or networked drives when you click My Computer go to :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo rer
Now in the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it NoDrives. Now modify it's value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal) Now press F5 to refresh. When you click on My Computer, no drives will be shown. To enable display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item. It's .reg file is as follows:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Expl orer]
"NoDrives"=dword:03fffif Take Over the Screen Saver

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ScreenSavers
Now add a new string value and name it Mouse Corners. Edit this new value to -Y-N. Press F5 to refresh the registry. Voila! Now you can activate your screensaver by simply placing the mouse cursor at the top right corner of the screen and if you take the mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen, the screensaver will deactivate.
Pop a banner each time Windows Boots
To pop a banner which can contain any message you want to display just before a user is going to log on, go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\^mdows\CurrentVersion\WinLog on
Now create a new string Value in the right pane named LegalNoticeCaption and enter the value that you want to see in the Menu Bar. Now create yet another new string value and name it: LegalNoticeText. Modify it and insert the message you want to display each time Windows boots. This can be effectively used to display the company's private policy each time the user logs on to his NT box. It's .reg file would be:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\^mdows\CurrentVersion\Winlog
on]
"LegalNoticeCaption"="Captionhere." Delete the Tips of the Day to save 5KB
Windows 95 had these tips of the day which appeared on a system running a newly installed Windows OS. These tips of the day are stored in the Windows Registry and consume 5K of space. For those of you who are really concerned about how much free space your hard disk has, I have the perfect trick.
To save 5K go to the following key in Regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Sofhvare\MicrosomWmdows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Tip
Now simply delete these tricks by selecting and pressing the DEL key.

Change the Default Locations
To change the default drive or path where Windows will look for it's installation files, go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Sof^are\MicrosomWindows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Source Path
Now you can edit as you wish.
Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings
You can save your desktop settings and secure it from your nerdy friend by playing with the registry. Simply launch the Registry Editor go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo rer
In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it's value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved.
CLSID Folders Explained
Don't you just hate those stubborn stupid icons that refuse to leave the desktop, like the Network Neighborhood icon. I am sure you want to know how you can delete them. You may say, that is really simple, simply right click on the concerned icon and select Delete. Well not exactly, you see when you right click on these special folders( see entire list below)neither the rename nor the delete option does not appear. To delete these folders, there are two methods, the first one is using the System Policy Editor(Poledit in the Windows installation CD)and the second is using the Registry.

Change Text on XP Start Button XP Trick

Step 1 - Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For purposes of this article I have used Resource Hacker. Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

get this from h**p://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip

The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe.

The category we are going to be using is "String Table". Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to and expand string 37 followed by highlighting 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the stringtable. We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.

There is no magic here. Just double click on the word “start” so that it’s highlighted, making sure the quotation marks are not part of the highlight. They need to remain in place, surrounding the new text that you’ll type. Go ahead and type your new entry. In my case I used Click Me!

You’ll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out is now active. I won’t get into what’s involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it’s going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the Save As command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save command – Make sure to use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.

Step 2 – Modify the Registry

!!!make a backup of your registry before making changes!!!

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it’s necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don’t know how to access the registry I’m not sure this article is for you, but just in case it’s a temporary memory lapse, go to Start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the Open field. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In the right pane, double click the "Shell" entry to open the Edit String dialog box. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, or reboot the entire system if that’s your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text.[/b]

Single Users vs. Multiusers vs. Network Users

Windows was designed according to the “one computer, one desk, one user” vision ofMicrosoft’s
cofounder Bill Gates. For the sake of discussion, I’ll call this philosophy single-user. In this
arrangement, two people cannot work in parallel running (for example) Microsoft Word on the
same machine at the same time. Using Terminal Services in Windows 2000 or Windows XP
allows remote use of one computer from another but is still bound by the single-user paradigm.
The Windows .NET Server products, which are unfinished as of this writing, continue to add
terminal features to enable more than one user to access the server simultaneously.
Linux borrows its philosophy from UNIX. When UNIX was originally developed at Bell
Labs in the early 1970s, it ran on a PDP-7 computer that needed to be shared by an entire
department. It required a design that allowed multiple users to log in to the central machine at
the same time. Various people could edit documents, compile programs, and do other work
at the exact same time. The operating system on the central machine took care of the “sharing”
details, so that each user seemed to have an individual system. This multiuser tradition
continues through today, on other UNIXs as well. And since Linux’s birth in the early 1990s,
it has supported the multiuser arrangement.

Today, the most common implementation of a multiuser setup is to support servers—
systems dedicated to running large programs for use by many clients. Each member of a
department can have a smaller workstation on the desktop, with enough power for day-to-day
work. When they need to do something requiring significantly more CPU power or memory,
they can run the operation on the server.
Linux, Windows 2000, and Windows .NET Server are all capable of providing services
such as databases over the network. Users of this arrangement can be called network users,
since they are never actually logged in to the server but rather send requests to the server. The server does the work and then sends the results back to the user via the network. The catch in this case is that an application must be specifically written to perform such server/client duties. Under Linux, a user can run any program allowed by the system administrator on the server without having to redesign that program. Most users find the ability to run arbitrary programs on other machines to be of significant benefit.
